Kettlebell Joy!

Kettlebell Lifting. Paradigm Shifting.

Welcome to a new culture of kettlebells. One that centers on individual and community wellbeing, and play. Welcome…to Kettlebell Joy!

Weightlifter of Willendorf. Based on the Woman of Willendorf, a paleolithic limestone figurine, ca. 25,000 BP. A reminder of the ancient, playful and powerful nature of lifting.

IT’S ABOUT COMMUNITY

From a practical standpoint, Kettlebell Joy is about lifting kettlebells with respect to bodily and community wellbeing. On a more global level, it is about joining in a new paradigm of fitness and helping to create a new culture and community around kettlebells.

THE KETTLEBELL JOY MISSION

The Kettlebell Joy mission is to learn, practice, and train the overhead kettlebell lifts in a spirit of play, for physical fitness, and with regard to bodily individual and community wellbeing.

play…wITH WEIGHTS

Kettlebell Joy is a work of love, community, vulnerability, experimentation, and hope. We lift bells not as performance for comparison, or as competition for dominance, but for us. We lift for the way it makes us feel within our bodies, in our environment, and in our community. We lift as play, for enjoyment and recreation, and with curiosity and daring.

Community and individual bodily wellbeing

“Community wellbeing is the combination of social, economic, environmental, cultural, and political conditions identified by individuals and their communities as essential for them to flourish and fulfill their potential.”

-Wiseman and Brasher

“Bodily wellbeing is the physical sensation of environmental, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, social, AND physical harmony.”

-Sam McLean

Elements of Community Wellbeing

  • Connectedness: social structures within the community offer support, enhance trust, encourage harmony, foster civic engagement, and empower ALL members to participate in the community.

  • Livability: supporting education, recreation, safety and accessibility within community systems to help individuals thrive.

  • Equity: values of diversity, social justice, and individual empowerment through fair and equitable treatment, education, and by meeting individuals where they’re at.

  • Perpetuity: serving the future of the community by cultural preservation and civically-minded action.

The social media pages of Kettlebell Joy will be the main venue of connection for our community. We will support each other, engage with each other, empower, trust, and acknowledge each other. Our shared experiences will help us all thrive together.

Elements of Bodily Wellbeing

  • Visibility: your body is seen. You will not be overlooked.

  • Safety: your body is safe. You will be treated with care and we will listen to your feedback about the feeling of this play within your body to help minimize your risk for injury, disease, undue fatigue and stress.

  • Belonging: your body is welcome. This is your community. There is plenty of room for you here. You are allowed to be what you need to be: to be heard or silent, to take up space or create it, to be authentically you.

  • Respect: your body and its experience are valued. Thank you for adding yourself to this community. Your body’s story enriches and deepens our understanding of this work, and helps us grow together.

  • Transcendance: as a community, we lift each other up to be a greater whole. We are all improved by your presence in this community.

Individual bodily wellbeing is essential to that of the community. Your presence in this community is seen, appreciated, and supported by the community. We are invested in your wellbeing because you are worthy, and because with you, we are better.
